Search & Rescue training covers several distinct disciplines under one umbrella: wide-area search for a missing person, wilderness search across difficult terrain, disaster search through unstable or collapsed structures, and, in advanced cases, human remains detection. Each discipline demands its own conditioning, search pattern, and alert behavior — a dog built for open-area search doesn't automatically transfer to rubble search without dedicated retraining.
Handler coordination is trained alongside every discipline, since SAR deployments almost always involve a team working under time pressure and incomplete information.

SAR work asks a dog to stay focused and physically capable for extended periods in genuinely difficult conditions — heat, cold, unstable footing, and chaotic environments with multiple competing scents. Training that only happens in calm, controlled settings won't hold up once real stakes and real stress enter the picture, which is why ICONK9's SAR programs are built around scenario variation and physical conditioning from the earliest stages, not added on right before deployment.
